Chapter 15 -- Honeymoon

Meeko and Sunny face a storm on their way to the airport as he pledges to be the most wonderful, loving, and devoted husband that ever lived.

Meeko has planned the honeymoon destination as a surprise. Sunny discovers that a sixty-foot boat moored at Fort Lauderdale is going to be their home for the next three months. Again Meeko pledges his undying love to Sunny. She joins him, letting him know that her search for love is over, and that she expects their relationship will provide the joy of all the holidays rolled into every day of their lives.

Soon Meeko and Sunny settle into their life on the boat. They visit an island and Sunny feels the presence of the long ago people that once lived in these islands. Meeko asks Sunny to teach him the Mayan count as they stroll along the beach. They skirt danger at nightfall, barely leaving the beach as the tide rolls in. Afterwards Sunny tries to ground Meeko by speaking to him of building a strong belief and trust in each other. They continue their honeymoon, tasting wonderful Creole dishes and listening to the music that flows continuously from the steel drums and island singers.

Later Meeko and the crew go on an overnight deep sea fishing trip. Sunny uses this time to inquire about Ashna, a Vudan priestess she has heard about from the locals on the beach. She learns that if she goes to a certain church in the center of town that evening, she can meet Ashna. She attends the service, but is disappointed by her abrasive manner. Later, a waiter invites her to a Tomburrie ritual.

Meeko and Sunny attend the ceremony. Here Sunny meets Ashna again and this time she challenges her with a live snake in a half-filled whiskey bottle. Sunny lets Ashna know that she is not ready to join her, but later participates in the ceremony. Afterwards she speaks to Ashna and is issued an invitation to join her the next day. Ashna lets Sunny know that she is here to have the marriage protected, to remove the destruction from their many past lives together, and that Cheering Woman is present with them. Later Ashna meets with Meeko and Sunny, and states that if there is ever a lie between them, the offender will become a victim of fate and die in great suffering. She also lets them know that she will complete the ceremony herself in four days. She predicts that by that time Sunny and Meeko will be separated.

Over the next few days Meeko becomes indifferent towards Sunny and sleeps on the deck. In the middle of the night she is awakened by something being dragged. Meeko informs her that all this activity is none of her concern, and tells her that he will meet up with her again in four to five days in Los Angeles to go with her on the tour.
